Gouty Cay Gao

The weird trunk of the famous specimen of Cay Gao, (Salmalia malabarica or Bombax malabaricum) along the Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi, Vietnam. This large tropical tree is a relative of the Hibiscus.

That is a wonderfully textured trunk. Do they develop the bumpy surface after many years, or do the young trees have the same shape?

well, I do not really know if young plants have them - I supposed these enlarge with years.

Frankly, I find them spooky - sometimes my imagination can run wild....
