In the glory of Pink shower

Hot dry season at Thai-Burmese border.

The dreary long drive was interrupted by a glorius sight ....

Cassia bakeriana or the pink shower tree is a native of the seasonally dry areas of Thailand and Burma. It is from the Legume family and is closely related to Golden shower tree (C. fistula) that has been introduced by Singapore authorities for city scaping. During the dry season, the small tree drop all the leaves and cover themselves in pink blossoms in a concerted fashion....the flowering fools ! 

If they can do as well in Singapore, there will be no need to go to Japan for cherry blossom seasons.

Blue Peas vine

A relative of the jadevine but this is blue instead of green - hence the name Strongylodon caerulea.

This a large vine from the Philippines that has not yet found its way to the horticultural scene.

ROcky ROad

It's a twisting, twirling rocky road to the top....
but lying down is hardly an alternative.

Many members of the Legume family from subfamily CAESALPINIACEAE are interesting lianas, sometimes with weird textured surfaces, like my previous entry here. During an ascent to Bukit Timah Hill, a particular Caesalpinia sumatrana captured my attention with its curiously knobby vine.

Ladder to heaven

A tropical liana from genus Bauhinia with exotic texture.
