Unknown Gesneriad

Found this stunning Gesneriad growing on a sandstone mountain slope in southern Sarawak.

I have absolutely no idea what it is - if I have to make a guess it would be a Henckelia.... suggestions much welcome.

Lovely details on the petals and leaves.

The answer to your query that red junglefowl are supposed to have white ear patch. You are absolutely right. The adult Red Junglefowl have the white ear patch. The one that I photographed is a juvenile and closer observation of the image shows that the ear patch is just developing...Thomas

For me, the plant looks similar to a Gesneriad, Episcia especially the flower. But I googled Henckelia and saw many sp. that looks like this one. Hope others can help you ;-)

T&S, thanks for the clarification. Your shots are immaculate - I have yet to master taking bird pics.

Hi all,
right now, I can conjure up Henckelia as possible ID only.

Exodus, these are really mostly difficult as you say, there may be a soil microbe involved to be successful.

Thanks for your information, this is quite turn me off.....

This is what I heard from the US gesneriad forum that some Brazilian sp may need microbes to germinate. But its a guess. In general, 70-80% of these plants do not grow well in nurseries.
